Innovative Hub: The Impact of the ‘I SEE YOU PROJECT’
18 Jan, 2025

The rhythmic beats of African drums echoed through the halls of St. James Episcopal Church in Edinburgh as the Norine Mindeyes Culture Connect Foundation hosted a vibrant Traditional African Drumming Workshop and Performing Arts event under the “I SEE YOU PROJECT.” This initiative was designed to bring together individuals of all backgrounds to celebrate African heritage, foster creativity, and build a sense of community.

A Fusion of Tradition and Creativity

The event featured free workshops aimed at engaging participants in various cultural and artistic activities. Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in African drumming, learning the beats of the Conga Drum and Talking Drum, which carry deep historical significance in African storytelling and communication. Beyond music, the workshops introduced Afro dancing, singing, sewing, crochet, traditional African cooking, acting, arts & painting, mentorship programs, and photography.

Empowering the Youth and Encouraging Self-Expression

With a special focus on young innovators, the Friday session created a safe space for young minds to explore their talents. Participants were encouraged to express themselves through dance, music, and visual arts while being mentored by experienced professionals. The energy was infectious as children and teenagers embraced their roots, learned new skills, and connected with one another through artistic collaboration.

A Celebration of African Heritage Through Performance Arts

On Saturday, the event transformed into a grand celebration of performance arts. Participants showcased their newly acquired skills, engaging the audience with drumming performances, dance routines, and artistic expressions that reflected the beauty of African traditions. The mentorship workshops also played a crucial role in guiding young talents toward self-confidence and leadership through cultural engagement.

A Lasting Impact on the Community

The “I SEE YOU PROJECT” was not just an event—it was a movement that reaffirmed the importance of culture, creativity, and togetherness. Through these workshops, the Norine Mindeyes Culture Connect Foundation successfully fostered a sense of belonging, bridging the gap between African heritage and the diaspora in Scotland. The smiles, laughter, and joy of participants proved that art and culture have the power to unite, uplift, and transform lives.

As the final drumbeats faded into the evening, one thing was clear—this was only the beginning of a larger mission to preserve African traditions, empower individuals, and create a thriving community rooted in cultural pride and artistic expression.
